How Bidding Works

Last revised: 15 September 2026

Bidding is intended to feel more like a face-to-face haggle than an automated auction. A listing may define a minimum bid, and active bid amounts must be unique. Your position can be Leading or Outbid. You can adjust or withdraw an active bid under the current Marketplace rules.

There is no automatic or proxy bidding. A seller may move their asking price up or down, or choose not to set one. An asking price is not Buy It Now. A bid can be below, equal to or above the seller’s asking price and still does not create an automatic sale.

The seller sees the live market and chooses whether to strike a Deal with the leading bid. Once a Deal is struck, that Marketplace opportunity closes to other members. The price Hagglefor records is the Deal struck price, not a verified final private payment.
