How Hagglefor Works

Browse and discover
Anyone can browse Hagglefor freely. Explore items for sale, see Wanted items, and follow links into Merryton’s specialist sites for deeper history and information.
Members can take part in the Marketplace and use the trading tools available to their membership.
Haggle over the price
Hagglefor works more like a real-world negotiation than a conventional online auction.
A seller may set and adjust an asking price, while buyers can place and adjust their own bids.
Neither side is locked into a one-way countdown. Buyers can raise or change their bids, sellers can move their asking price up or down, and the seller decides if and when the right Deal has been reached.
Reaching or exceeding the seller’s asking price does not automatically complete a sale.
Hagglefor gives buyers and sellers the freedom to negotiate what works best for themselves.
When a Deal is struck
Once a seller accepts a bid, that Marketplace opportunity closes to other members and the buyer and seller enter a private Deal Room.
From there they arrange payment, delivery or collection directly between themselves. Hagglefor does not take payment for Marketplace items or arrange shipping.
Both sides confirm the important completion steps, and a Private Deal Summary is made available for them to keep.
Private Deal information is retained only for a short period in case an issue needs to be resolved, then the identifiable connection between buyer, seller and Deal is permanently deleted.
Item information and the anonymised Deal struck price may remain in the archive where they add useful historical knowledge.
Scheduled Drops
Some new listings arrive through Scheduled Drops, where groups of reviewed items are released into the Marketplace over a short period.
A Drop controls when an item arrives — it is not a countdown auction. Once released, the item becomes an ordinary live Marketplace listing and remains open until its seller strikes a Deal or the listing otherwise ends.
